ADD (attention deficit
disorder) and
ADHD (attention deficit
hyperactivity disorder) is a condition that
affects between 3% – 7% of all school age children. Boys are
three times more likely to be diagnosed than girls, but reasoning is
unknown. Estimates regarding the number of people affected by this
disorder vary. This variance has been attributed to the fact
that health professionals are using different standards to diagnose the
condition. It may also be due to the fact that health professionals and
parents are diagnosing the
disease with out cause or investigation. It is easier to deal with a
hyper child by giving them drugs than to deal with the root cause of he
problem.
Regardless of how many people are
actually diagnosed, the more important point is that people are looking
for answers to help them cope with this disorder. These
answers that they (you) are looking for are usually
alternative treatments. Treatments that do not cuase any undo harm to
the patient by submitting them to addictive and potentially dangerous
prescription drugs.
Of course it is known that all
children, the younger ones especially, act "hyper" from time to time.
It is in their nature. The key point is to know when a kid is being a
kid and when/if they have a more seriuos problem. The good news,
however, is that no matter what is causing your childs hyper, weird, or
sheltered activity,
it can be treated with all natural means and parental support.
So you have come to the right
place to find out what ADHD is and how to
treat it...
Remeber that one symptom of ADHD/ADD
does not indicate that you or your child has the problem. ADHD usually
occurs before the age of 7 and will continue for at least 1 YEAR. The
disorder must also present itself in all areas of the child/your
activities. If the patient is "hyper" and the playground and not in the
classroom, then it may just be a simple case of energy. Now, if the
symptoms present themselves in the classroom, playground, home and
social situations, you may want to consult your family doctor. Stress,
anxiety and depression induced experiences can also bring on temporary
symptoms of ADHD/ADD.
Not even prescription medication is a
stand-alone treatment when it comes to ADD - ADHD. In fact,
whether you decide to use prescription medications or
natural/alternative remedies, you will still have to examine factors
such as diet and nutrition, daily exercise regimes and even behavioral
counseling for the patient.
These treatments still need to be
discussed with your doctor. While they are considered
“natural” and safe, natural remedies can still
react with food and/or other medication that you or your child may be
taking. As a guideline, your health care practitioner should
be involved in any decision you make regarding treatment options.
